British Open History
Since the first British Open Championship was held in 1860, a total of 14 different links courses in Britain have been selected for the honor of hosting the event. Three of these are tucked away in the southeast corner of England, hidden from most visiting golfers.
Too often overlooked, all three are ranked among the best links courses in the country -- including this year's venue, Royal St. George's, which will be hosting the British Open for the thirteenth occasion. Each is in the county of Kent, which is known as the Garden of England for its beautiful rolling countryside. Kent also happens to be a Garden of Eden for golfers, with a selection of magnificent linksland courses, just waiting to be discovered.
